The Carrozzini von Buhler Gallery, D’Ars Foundation and IEP International Exhibition Projects proudly present The Gift, a multimedia group exhibition featuring eight contemporary Italian artists. The international artists present painted sculpture, mixed media, experimental photography, abstract artworks, and installations that celebrate the spontaneous nature of gifts. Artists observe the experience and exchange of gifts on both individual and universal levels. Featured artists include: Fiorenzo Barindelli, Rosaspina Buscarino Canosburi, Grazia Lavia, Massimo Lomasto, Clara Scarampella, Andrea Schianchi, Stefania Siragusa, and Christian Unti. The Gift will be on view Wednesday, November 14 through Tuesday, November 27, 2007, with an opening reception held on Thursday, November 15, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“A gift is something that appears unexpectedly, without warning and not bound by anything,” states Curator Stefania Carrozzini. “A central theme to the exhibition is the cyclical process generated from giving and receiving gifts, and translates directly to the energy and nature of these gifts in their purest forms.” Featured artists create visually harmonious and provocative works that exude a harmonious, kinetic energy. In contrast to organic textures and simulated materials found in abstract artworks, exhibiting artists also present literal and symbolic pieces to illustrate human presence and identity to connect subject with the viewer. Such works take the form of recognizable and tangible materials, literally “presents” tied with string. A play on materials in these works heightens awareness of natural, unforced forms of gifts versus their material, finite counterparts.

Fiorenzo Barindelli creates completely abstract paintings to illustrate the transient flow and interconnected nature of the giving process. Rosaspina Buscarino Canosburi’s painted sculpture is a tactile, crude form that symbolizes a raw and effortless encounter with a gift, or the makeup of the gift itself. Similarly, Massimo Lomasto presents this concept through detailed etchings, Clara Scarampella through vibrant photography, and Christian Unti with glass and mixed media overlay. Grazia Lavia and Stefani Siragusa interpret the literal sense of a gift through installation and painting. Andrea Schianchi focuses on gifts of solitude and balance through black and white photography.

The Gift is a program organized by D’Ars Foundation & IEP International Exhibition Project (Milan – New York – Beijing). A catalogue accompanies the exhibition and is available at the Carrozzini von Buhler Gallery.
